I am a high-energy “business decathlete” ~ really good in ten different business roles, but not the world record-holder.
Here’s a top ten list of notable or curious things to know about me:
1. My first job was in sports marketing, travelling with the US Pro Ski Tour and then taking 1,200 people to the Olympic Winter Games.
2. I’ve worked on 8 startups this century. Splitzee, the last, was picked for the MassChallenge accelerator program.
3. My first job in Boston was at The Computer Museum where I was the Director of Marketing, and then The Computer Bowl. I met Bill Gates and Steve Wozniak twice each.
4. The US Olympic and Paralympic Committee was one of my favorite consulting engagements ever, just ahead of the National Center for Accessible Media at WGBH.
5. I was on the startup team at Liberty Science Center and was the lead executive on the production of our custom IMAX film about a spaceman named Max who crashed through our dome.
6. I was the Chief Marketing Officer for FIRST, Dean Kamen’s robotics-oriented non-profit, and secured an invitation to The White House for 130 students and mentors.
7. I taught middle school science and was nominated for the NJ Governor’s award for outstanding teaching.
8. I’ve been a member of the Rotary Club of Weston and Wayland since 2015, was the president in 2020-21 when we were Club of the Year, and co-founded the Business Networking Series and Rotary@Work initiative.
9. My great grandfather, Italo Marchiony, invented the ice cream cone.
10. I grew up in Montclair, NJ, and nobody has ever guessed I was born and raised there.
